Understanding the Structure of IHRS
All
The Founding Members Committee is the heart and heritage of IHRS. It is made up of the individuals who took the first step to create and establish the International Human Rights Society — those who transformed the idea into a functioning organisation.
Their contribution is not just administrative; it is symbolic and historical. They represent the foundation upon which IHRS was built — the very people who believed in the idea of empowering students, spreading awareness about human rights, and promoting equality and justice from the very beginning.
The existence of this committee is primarily to honour and respect those founding figures. They are recognised as mentors, vision-bearers, and guardians of the legacy of IHRS. Although they do not engage in day-to-day decision-making or operational tasks, their opinions hold significant moral weight and serve as guidance when needed.
In short, this committee is the symbol of respect, recognition, and remembrance — representing the roots from which IHRS continues to grow.
The Executive Committee is the brain and backbone of IHRS — the central decision-making body that leads, governs, and directs the organisation’s overall activities and strategies.
It consists of highly dedicated and trained individuals who understand both the vision and the operational framework of IHRS. Members of this committee are selected based on their leadership, experience, and proven ability to handle responsibility.
Their core duties include:
• Decision-Making: Handling all sensitive and strategic decisions for IHRS, including approval of major projects, collaborations, campaigns, and policies.
• Internal & External Affairs: Managing communication between campuses, departments, and external bodies such as university unions, partners, or other organisations.
• Oversight & Guidance: Supervising the activities of all General Committees and ensuring that every campus follows the standard principles and objectives of IHRS.
• Conflict Resolution: Addressing internal conflicts, disciplinary matters, or structural issues that require higher-level intervention.
• Maintenance of Values: Making sure every decision aligns with IHRS’s core principles of equality, justice, and student empowerment.
The Executive Committee ensures the organisation moves forward in unity, discipline, and integrity. Their guidance keeps the entire IHRS structure coordinated and efficient across all levels.
While the Executive Committee oversees IHRS as a whole, each campus has its own General Committee to carry out activities locally. These General Committees are the operational branches of IHRS — directly working with students and implementing IHRS’s goals at the ground level.
Currently, we have:
• IHRS General Committee – Greenwich Campus
• IHRS General Committee – Dagenham Campus
In the future, as IHRS expands, more General Committees may be established in other campuses or locations.
Each General Committee operates under the direction and supervision of the Executive Committee. They receive instructions, updates, and targets from the Executive Committee and then implement those through their respective departments.
The General Committees serve as a bridge between students and the higher body of IHRS — collecting feedback, organising local events, raising awareness, and carrying out outreach and educational activities at campus level.
While there may be several General Committees across different campuses, there will always be one single Executive Committee to ensure unity, uniformity, and proper direction.
